Our yawning baby Is three days old in the picture. Below are his birth pictures.

Brand new baby

Yes, this is that cute yawning baby above. This is him at birth--about 10 minutes old. He was born at 2:10 in the afternoon. By 2:20, here he was--standing up all by himself! Wow, World!

Amazing, they are born knowing just what they have to do and how to do it. He even figured out how he was supposed to get those long legs folded up under him so he could "kush". That's what you call it when they lie down.

In the Andes, where llamas are native, the baby is usually born in the middle of the day. That's so he can be dry and nursing and strong by nightfall. The herd may need to outrun a Puma, so he has to be able to run with them! Here in the United States, with no Pumas to chase them, they're still mostly born in the middle of the day--great for us!

There's no guarantee of color with llamas. This mostly white baby was born to a mom who is dark brown with a white blaze on her face and a dad who is black with a white chin. Who would have thought?

This is the proud daddy of the newborn: Si Macho's Striker. Striker has been producing many beautiful babies with luscious, crimpy fiber, many of them true black--not a common color in llamas!
