When we bought this acreage in the beautiful Skagit Valley of northwestern Washington, we knew only that we wanted to raise interesting animals. We didn't have a clue what that meant! However, when we saw our first llamas, we were smitten.

We checked the only book on llamas out of our local library and sat up in bed at night reading out loud, laughing at the antics of these storybook llamas, wondering if someday we could really have some of these marvelous animals! One day we met a wonderful lady who shared her love of llamas and her knowledge with us. We soon purchased two young males; but decided we really wanted to have babies. In the meantime, we were madly building fences and shelters--and learning, learning, learning! We joined the state and national organizations and subscribed to every llama publication in an effort to learn as much as possible. Within a month, we had purchased two pregnant females--and our herd was on its way! We still have some of those original llamas, now getting up in age. At one time, the herd numbered 65; now it is ten. |
We have grown and learned and volunteered and shared and worked and changed as we've known these wonderful animals. They've taught us as we've cared for them. Over the years, we've changed our directions several times, but some things have stayed true -- these are the most magical of animals and they have truly captured our hearts and changed our lives. |

For many years, we were breeders. Life changes... Over time, we discovered we really enjoy showing llamas. We have one female known to many "NH Flight of the Eagle" who has won our hearts and MANY awards in Halter and Performance! In 1997, the border to Canada, which had been closed for some time, reopened. At that time, we almost accidentally hosted our first quarantine. |
In those days, the Canadian protocol was lengthy (six months in isolation) and complicated (requirement was 20 llamas and 10 of those had to be at least two years old). We found that we enjoyed the process, the animals and the people - many became friends. Since that time, we have downsized our herd and our ranch. We have continued to run Quarantines to Canada for the same reasons and expect it to continue for many years.
